What is Family Self-Sufficiency
Family Self-Sufficiency is your opportunity to become independant from government assistance. With the help of your case manager, you and your family will set both long- and short-term goals and enter into a time-limited, 5-year contract with the FSS program. Your case manager will also work with you to find the best possible rout to reach your goals. The FSS program is anemployment/education program, so you will be expected to either be employed or going to school full-time (or a combnation of the two) at the end of your contract with us.

How do I become self-sufficient?
Once you have attended a program orientation and have signedyour contract, you are on your way! Your contract, know as anIndividual Training & Service Plan (ITSP), states your final goal on paper. Your goal is determined by youand your family. It can be anything, as long as you become economically self-sufficient. In the end, as you work towards self-sufficiency, your income will increase and your rent will go up. HACFM will establish an escrow account in your name. The difference between what you were paying for rent and and what you are paying will be placed into escrow. If you succesfully complete your goal, which includes being free from welfare for a year.... the money is yours!

What's Next?
If you areinterested in coming to one of our orientations, please send us an e-mail. When it is received, the program coordinator will contact you to scheduke your orientation time. At orientation you will learn more about the program so that you can make an informed dicision about the program. We ask that you carefully consider your involvement. It's a long road to self-sufficiency and it won't always be easy, but you will have the support of the FSS family and with you & us working together, we can make it work!
